Al Gore To The Rescue

January 18, 2006 / by Catidogi

"The issue, simply put, is that for more than four years, the executive branch has been wiretapping many thousands of American citizens without warrants in direct contradiction of American law. It is clearly wrong and disrespectful to the American people to allow a close political associate of the president to be in charge of reviewing serious charges against him.

"The country needs a full and independent investigation into the facts and legality of the present Administration's program."

Al Gore 17 January 2006

This call for justice has prompted a series of personal attacks against Gore. The attackers know the American Judicial System will never prosecute the criminals.

We suggest trials in the European Courts on human rights violations. (War Crimes)

We submit 4 Articles from the UN 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Judicial consideration.

Article 12.
No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.

Article 19.
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

Article 22.
Everyone, as a member of society, has the right to social security and is entitled to realization, through national effort and international co-operation and in accordance with the organization and resources of each State, of the economic, social and cultural rights indispensable for his dignity and the free development of his personality.

Article 30.
Nothing in this Declaration may be interpreted as implying for any State, group or person any right to engage in any activity or to perform any act aimed at the destruction of any of the rights and freedoms set forth herein.

Our public schools require 12 years of Bible study. In every synagogue we read a prescribed Torah portion covering all of it in 3 years. The Reconstructionist Jews have a Book that presents the Torah portion each week with Talmudic and other comments relevant to that portion. Presented in English and Hebrew, it puts order into a very complex discussion that has been going on for several thousand years.
The Talmudic literature comments on every situation that might occur. It is a guide for everyday life. In Israel, the government employs 6000 people who study full time.
Borrow a Book from a local synagogue. You won't be sorry.
The Kabbalah represents the mystical side of Judaism. It too is fascinating tasty food for the mind no matter your faith or lack of it.
Remember, God read the Torah to learn how to create the world.

If the World Courts refuse to participate, we suggest that American Jews call for a Beit Din.

Catidogi - I think I might understand. My husband didn't die, and that has to be incredibly wrenching and always unexpected. But I lost my mom and older sister in the space of 6 months, and my dad 3 years later. That all started 16 years ago and the memory of it still cuts. Our culture doesn't make room for this, but it is fact. Grieving takes far longer than western culture says it "should." but maybe, if you haven't yet, its time to talk to a counselor who can help you begin to make peace with it?
Snacks was responding to my confession I am not a planner and that I have been adrift since 1995, the year my husband died. I can appreciate her good advice on my scanty information. After my husband Mike died, I sat in the living room with his body the Police outside. I never shed a tear for Mike or for my boyfriend who had been murdered 41 stab wounds the previous February. For those Jews who have a heart, we have the wonderful institution of sitting shiva. They sit in the house a week of sorrow comforted by friends who visit carrying food. Moaning and groaning massively overdone, we can get on with our lives.
I was unclear in my original comments to Snacks and I apologize for that. [BLUSH]

In 1980 my father died of a heart attack and my girlfriend hanged herself. My wife of 19 years filed for divorce and threw me to the street. When my business failed, I couldn't sleep in my office. My new girlfriend was rich and beatiful, but insisted I get a job. After she tossed me out, I slept in an abandoned building with my cat. Unrestrained and hungry, he ran into the street and under the wheels of a runaway truck.
The point is this happened in a very short period of time [similar to Snacks]. Faced with serial tragedies, most people either contract a fatal disease or just die outright.[OHMY]

I admit to being confused by the string of comments above - to who said what etc. I wish I belonged to a tradition of sitting Shiva, instead of a tradition that glorifies steely strength and no crying in public. Perhaps I would be stronger now.
